Extension Lecture on Superconductivity at KMV

Jalandhar 9 September (Jaswinder Azad)- The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar where getting guidance for students from the best possible sources is a continues and concerted effort, every year extension lectures are conduced by all faculties where renowned experts impart and share their knowledge with the students in the form of lecture and interaction.  Recently Dr. Aman Mahajan, Associate Professor, Department of Physics Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was invited by the KMV PG Dept. of Physics to deliver a lecture on superconductivity. The resource person’s erudite exposition made the topic come alive, he explained the classification of various materials and their conduction properties in an interesting way, highlighting how low temperature changed some properties of various materials. The next issue of deliberation was thermo dynamical properties of superconductors. He also explained how BCS theory has successfully explained the origin and properties of super conductor materials. Interesting he also mentioned how the triology of Bardeen, Coper and Schieffer got noble prize 50 years after they had discovered the theory of super conductor. Various applications of super conductors like magnetic levitation in bullet trains and use in transmission lines was explained.
Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the Head & faculty of the PG Dept. of Physics for having organized such a successful event. She observed that such events were milestones in the academic growth of the young students and were comparative for their progress.
