Jalandhar 8 February (Jaswinder Azad)- Realizing the key role and special significance of Mathematics as a core subject, the P.G. Department of Mathematics of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organized Mathemania 2017. The objective of the event was to convey that learning mathematics needs greater efforts of the mind. Dr. Loveleen Kumar Grover, Department of Mathematics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar graced the occasion as chief guest.
MATHEMANIA 2017 was marked by a variety of competitions like Power Point Presentation, Poster Presentation, Net Surfing and Quiz and the participants were judged by the eminent personalities like Dr. Loveleen, S. Jaspal Singh Aujla, NIT, Jalandhar and Mr. O.P. Arora, Retired Professor, Doaba College, Jalandhar. In this event, above 300 students from 22 colleges of Jalandhar District and nearby enthusiastically participated. The University Toppers who brought laurels to the college; Sahila Gupta of M.Sc. II Maths (1st position), Sana Arora of M.Sc. II Maths (7th position), Ankita Bhandari of M.Sc. I Maths (5th position), Taranpreet of M.Sc. II Maths (11th position), Swati Batia of M.Sc. II Maths (12th position), Akansha of B.Sc. (Comp. Sc.) 2nd Position, Tanisha of B.Sc. (Eco) 6th position and Hitika of B.Sc. (Eco) III Sem. 9th position were also honoured. The concluding ceremony was illumined with performances of song, dance, skit etc. by the college students.
Principal Dr. Sucharita congratulated all the winners and also appreciated the efforts of Department of Mathematics. She said Mathematics plays a vital role in a person’s career and Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations or algorithms, it is about understanding the concepts. Such competitions are need of the hour to imbibe the skills of mathematics in youngsters.
