Jalandhar 16 December (Jaswinder Azad)- The faculty and students of St. Soldier Law College, under the leadership of Dr. S.C. Sharma Director, organized a seminar on the Bill approved by the cabinet of Union Govt. disapproving the Triple Talaq amongst Muslims.
All the seminarians including Prof. Amritpal Kaur, Prof. Simi Thind,and Prof. Inderjit Kumar were unanimous in their opinion that the initiative of the Supreme Court followed by the Union Cabinet is a welcome step which will help ameliorating the condition of muslim women but they were sceptical about the provision of awarding 3- year imprisonment.
The Director Dr. Sharma and other participants were of the view that in personal law such punishments are not desirable to be prescribed because they will spoil the objective of bringing harmony in marital relations and strengthening the institution of muslim marriages. They wanted the Union Govt. to reconsider the penal provision in the Bill. Pro-Chairman of St. Soldier Group Mr. Prince Chopra and Managing Director Prof. Manhar Arora appreciated the contribution of Law College.
