Jalandhar 10 September (Jaswinder Azad)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar creativity and originality are cherished and nurtured as precious parts of academic acumen. The living proof of promotion of literature which embodies both the abovesaid characteristics is the recently organized Litmania-16 (Inter College English Festival). Mrs. Neerja Chander Mohan, member KMV Managing Committee was the Chief Guest on the occasion.The event was organized by KMV’s PG Dept. of English. The day long proceedings began with a warm welcome address by Principal KMV Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. She welcomed the Chief Guest and Judges addressing the students, she averred that literature based a very vital role in a person life. Students should by books and make them their lasting friends. She wished all the participants good luck and success in all the upcoming venture. The event received an overwhelming response. The premises was made vibrant by participating teams from Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Educational institution from all over Jalandhar district. The number of teams that participated in the day’s competition was 14, about 150 participants made their emphatic presence felt through the emphatic quality of their performance. There were five events in all. The first of all was Dramatic enactment of a scene from a play, One Act Day/ Novel/ Story, Myth. The audience was regaled with classics pieces of different hues from literature. In this competition the Team of Doaba College stood first whereas the teams of KMV and MCMDAV, Chandigarh stood 2nd and 3rd respectively. Ms. Radha, Pragya and Samridhi were also awarded for their outstanding performance in this competition. Thenit was time for literary characters come alive competition where every team tried to bring forth easily identifiable literary characters they had yet found in books walking on stage. Ms. Madhavi, Smiledeep and Jugraj got 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. The next in line was English Poem Recitation competition where many a young men & women found stage to present their eloquence knowledge & love of literature was simultaneously displayed in the quiz competition. For the quiz competition after the preliminary round only four qualifying teams went to the final round. The questions were all based on English language and literature. Participants also made portraitsof literary figures in the portrait making competition on the spot in two hours. The artistic caliber displayed by the young participants was of a very high quality winner. In Poem recitation Ayushi MCMDAV, Chandigarh stood 1st, Shweta KMV stood 2nd and Harpreet Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar bagged 3rd position. In Quiz Competition, Team of MCMDAV Chandigarh scored 1st position, Team Doaba College stood 2nd and the Team of KMV bagged 3rd position. In Poster Making Competition Palakdeep KMV and Divesh Kumar APJ College stood 1st, Gurvinder APJ College stood 2nd and Priya HMV College bagged 3rd position. Judges for the various events were Dr. Jasveera from Govt. College Hoshiarpur, Mrs. Mohini Sharda (Former Head Dept. of English, KMV) and Dr. Namrata Joshi, GNDU Regional Campus Ladhewali, Dr. Poornima, Dr. Madhumeet and Ms. Rekha. The vote of thanks was given by Convenor Litmania-16 the Head PG Dept. of English Mrs Seema Jain.
