Jalandhar 10 December (Jaswinder Azad)- KanyaMahaVidyalaya-The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar organized an awareness lecture on Eating Healthy Food under Faculty Development Programme. The resource person on this occasion was Dr. Bhawna, Senior Dietician, PIIMS, Jalandhar. During her talk, Dr. Bhawna touched upon various aspects of modern lifestyle which include poor dietary habits and unhealthy practices in almost every society, thus playing havoc on the healthy of today’s youth. Quoting WHO figures, she stated that obesity has been declared an epidemic now as 1 out of every 3 children and 3 out of every 5 adults are suffering from obesity in all the developed and developing nations. Not only Fat-loss, but maintain good health for the prevention of cardio-vascular diseases should be the prime focus of every obese person. She maintained that all the calories consumed during the day for ‘Energy-In’ should be burned for ‘Energy-out’ for maintaining cholesterol level and other essential fluids in the body.
Though her powerpoint presentation, she gave many useful tips like following a disciplined dietary regime comprising more protein intake, portion control, small meals (voluminous and fibrous) at intervals, more physical activity etc. Even creating awareness about the nutritional value of any packed food item can also check their consumption to some extent. The talk was followed by an interactive session. The college Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi thanked Dr. Bhawna for her enlightening discourse, under-living the importance of good health. She averred that healthy workforce can only contribute towards a healthy economy in any nation.
