A 3-month Certificate Course in Vedic Mathematics concludes at KMV

Jalandhar 22 May (Jaswinder Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage Institution, Jalandhar took the initiative to start KMV School of Vedic Mathematics under the aegis of PG Department of Mathematics & Vedic Research Centre, KMV. This School provided three month certificate course designed especially for the pass outs of 10+2, BA/B.Sc-sem VI and MA/M.Sc sem IV of any stream. Associate Prof. Mrs. Veena Deepak and Assistant professor Mrs. Anand Prabha are the master mind behinds this course to the heritage institution. KMV is the only institution who introduced this certificate course among all the colleges in Punjab. Vedic Mathematics is the branch of Mathematics which is based on 16 Sanskrit sutra and 13 Up Sutras (Aphorisms or word formulae) using which numerical calculations can be done faster than the conventional methods that are taught in school/Colleges. This course is not a collection of tricks but a Unified approach to Mathematics. This course covered addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, squaring, cubing of numbers etc. Some history was included and the qualities of flexibility, simplicity and other advantages of the Vedic system were discussed.
Vedic Mathematics is a blessing to everybody in present era as when people’s numerical skills are deteriorating due to the excessive use of calculator.  Vedic Mathematics is shorter, quicker and its easy to remember techniques enable the students to do calculations faster than they would do with conventional methods. Students of Vedic Mathematics dispel their fear of Mathematics and gain confidence to work on any Mathematical problems without apprehension.
30 students of M.Sc (Maths)-sem IV attended this prestigious course along with their regular course. They improved their numerical skills and were very enthusiastic to acquire higher knowledge in Vedic Maths. The main objective of this course is to sharpen the brain, to crack basic Mathematical problems of various competitive exams, to facilitate a habit of analytical thinking and to promote traditional knowledge of Mathematics mastered by the mathematicians of Vedic period of India. Mrs. Veena Deepak, Head, Department of Mathematics and Mrs. Anand Prabha (Dept. of mathematics) organised and took 24 lessons of Vedic Mathematic course. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the department for such an innovative Program.
