Jalandhar 18 March (Jaswinder Azad)- Excitement, jubilation and joy marked the occasion of the Annual Prize Distribution Function of Lyallpur Khalsa College wherein over 400 students of the college excelling in academics, sports and co-curricular activities at university level were honoured for their achievements. Giving away prizes to the achievers the Chief Guest Dr. Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar expressed the sense of joy and pride he was experiencing on honouring the winners, and added that he was impressed with the performance of the college in different areas. He congratulated the prize winners and asked them to work unitedly for the development of the country.
The Joint Secretary of the College Governing Council S. Jaspal Singh Waraich welcomed the Chief Guest and reiterated the commitment of the college to the quality education. He informed the present that the college was making special efforts in educating women; as a result around 40% of total student strength was of girls students. The College Principal Dr. G.S. Samra presented the annual report of the college, highlighting the key achievements of the college in Academics and Sports. He particularly mentioned that the college had been awarded Potential of Excellence status by the UGC in addition to award of FIST (Level-0 category) Grant by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. He also informed that the project Modified Protocol for the Efficient Use of Water for Paddy Production in Punjab has been short listed for Prime Ministers Award for Excellence in Public Administration under Innovation category.
On this occasion, tokens of appreciation were awarded to as many as 15 teachers Prof. Manohar Singh, Dr. Santokh Singh, Dr. Tarsem Singh, Dr. Balwinder Singh Chahal, Dr. Arun Dev Sharma, Prof. Baldev Singh, Dr. Bhupinder Pal Singh, Prof. Gobind Ram, Dr. Inderjeet Kaur, Dr. Ranju Mahajan, Prof. Palwinder Singh, Dr. Amanjot Kaur, Dr. Shilpa Panjgotra, Dr. Kulnaz Kaur amd Dr. Nirmaljit Kaur of the college for their academic achievements and outstanding contribution to research.
Two non teaching employees Sh. Surinder Kumar Chalotra, P.A. to Principal and Sh. Hari Singh, Peon were also honoured for their dedication and sincerity to the institution and their duty. The prestigious Roll of Honour on this occasion was awarded to Manmeet Kaur, Harpreet Singh Sidhu, Prince Parmar in Academics, Co-curicular and Sports categories respectively.
The occasion was witnessed by the distinguished presence of S. Gurdip Singh Sangha, (Members Governing Council), Master Mohinder Singh and the staff. The stage was well managed by Prof. Mansi Chopra and Dr. Inderjeet Kaur. Vote of thanks was presented by College Registrar Prof. Jasreen Kaur.
