Jalandhar 18 March (Jaswinder Azad)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Heritage Institution, Jalandhar one’s long academic proceeding of ICSD-17 on Skill Development in Education concluded in a relaxing, refreshing cultural Bonanza which was a heady mix of the folk, classical and fusion programmes. Set against the soft backdrop of a blooming spring garden with mainly pink, white and other colourful natural floral backdrops and blue traditional lights illuminating everything the ambience seemed like a picture out of a fairytale book. The evening kick started with the energetic, immediately engrossing Punjabi folk dance jagoo. With the floral felicitations of all the guests from abroad, Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi also welcomed the audience & the esteemed guests to the evening programme from the podium. Special mention must be made of the presence of Sh. Sunil Jyoti, Mayor, Jalandhar, Dr. Shruti Shukla, (State Co-ordinator-cum- Deputy Director Guidance Bureau, Punjab) and Mrs. Indu Verma (Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar), Sh. Chander Mohan Ji, President Arya Shikha Mandal, Dr. Sushma Chawla, Vice President, KMV Managing Committee, Sh. Alok Sondhi, General Secretary, KMV Managing Committee along with the honoured members of the management Mrs. Neerja Chander Mohan, Mrs. Susheela Bhagat, Mrs. Neeru Kapoor, Dr. Deepali Luthra, Sh. Kundan Lal Aggarwal, Dr. Naresh Kumar Dhiman, Principal Doaba College, Mrs. Anuradha Sondhi and Maj Gen (retd.) Prof. (Dr.) G.G. Dwivedi, Dean, International Studies, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. The first presentation of the cultural evening was a classical kathak dance by Jyotika. It was an invocation to lord Shiva. The elaborately prepared and meticulously ordered Fashion show started with parampara round showcased by the B.Sc. F.D. Sem-VI students. The collection doused in three basic shades pink spring blossoms appeared opulent with spectacular jewellery of the golden imperial era. The second floral cluster round showcased one piece dresses created by B.Voc 1st sem students. The basic attraction was the ribbon work intricate embroidery on pink khadi. The third corporate chick round was a refreshing change from the first two rounds. The models walked clothed as the confident women who juggle various roles in life with aplomb. The monochromatic office wear was matched with the body language of the models. In between after the third round Ms. Vanshu sang an enthralling western vocal solo. Round ‘Sweet Dreams’ by B.A. VIth semester FDGC was of sleepwear in pastel shades. The novel way in which all wearing the sleepwear were shown as a bunch of naughty kids being scolded by a grandmother was endearing. The charishma round displayed skirts in various silhouettes & cuts totally formal & different the Airport Terminal was an emotional dedication to the strength, valour & sacrifice of Ms. Neerja Bhanot. The clean cuts, elegant demeanour of the models impressed one and all.
There was a break in the show during which Ms. Poonam from the PG Dept. of Music enthralled all the powerful rendition of a gazal. The fashion show restarted with a dedication to a loving mother daughter relationship round titled Mama’s shoes. It was put up by M.Sc. F.D IV semester students. The next round by students of Pragatishala was inspired by nature. It was all about textile printing and hand painting with motifs from nature like, sea, fish, peacocks, sparrows & flowers of all hues. An interesting Rang Rasiya round set the stage ablaze with vibrant-colours of holi on lehngas & men’s wear. This was the creation of students of B.Voc II & IV sem. The winding of the show was Cleopatra’s Paradise of a sustainable collection using muslin, old sarees and dupattas. Its innovation lay in the execution in the form of an Egyptian tale told on the runway. A fusion dance interspersed with show stoppers of the day was the final entertainment of the day. Overall it left the audience strongly happy, satiated still craving for more. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of the PG Dept. of Fashion Designing.
