Day 2 of ICSD-17 at KMV Explores more routes to Skill Development

Jalandhar 18 March (Jaswinder Azad)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Heritage Institution, Jalandhar – Day 2 of the National Conference on Skill Development witnessed more presentations from across the globe in an effort to explore more routes to Skill Development.  The morning began with the plenary session chaired by Dr. Andres Aspling (on International Advisory Board of Turku School of Economics, Turku University, Finland).  The first speaker Ms. Hanen Trabelsi French teacher at KMV School of Communications was the first speaker for the day.  Ms. Hanen who is from Arab background spoke about the plight of the Arab women who needed to be empowered through Skill Development in education.  She also shared that many Arab Women did not have the right to vote even though their country boasted of a type of democratic set-up. The next speaker Dr. Jones Gordon Gyori Assoc. Prof. Centre for Intercultural Psychology & Education, Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest Hungary spoken next on ‘Brain, Mind, Cognition, Intelligence Thinking & Knowledge.  He talked at length about cognitive set of parallel complex processes of the mind and stressed that abilities and skills are not acts they are infact potentials which should be developed for social construction and not destruction.  Prof. Christopher Musick Associate Vice President of International Affairs, Chatham University USA spoke next on the opportunities available to absorb skills being taught abroad and the practical measures to be taken for the same.  He elaborated that the practical prerequisites to go abroad to absorb skills were an Academic background, ability in the language of the place (region) and financial ability.  He also spoke about the practical trainings being given in his country and how one could pursue studies & work options simultaneously.  The next plenary session after tea break was also chaired by Dr. Jonas Gordon Gyori, Mr. Nikhil Kumar, Education Officer, UGC, New Delhi spoke about skilling alongwith general education through skill enhancement courses, ability enhancement courses and also career oriented selection & implementations of these courses and linking them to advanced placement by identification of industry partners and their intervention at all basic stages of the course.  Such courses he informed are meticulously designed & certified by assessing the base of skill component of the qualification pack.  The last speaker of the session was Ms. Eliza, Australia.  She talked about the process of acquiring knowledge in stages like remembering, understanding, applying analyzing, evaluating and then creating.  Being highly satisfied in many of the above aspects with her students she however observed that her students lacked in original research, creative application of knowledge and critical thinking which would ultimately awaken their intellect and improve one’s thinking.
