Jalandhar 2 February (Gurkirat Singh)- 2-day International Conference on ‘Contemporary Issues in Social Sciences’ was inaugurated at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. The chief guest of the occasion was Prof. S.S. Johl, Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. The keynote speaker was Dr. Badrinarayanan Gopalkrishnan, Economist, University of Washington Seattle, USA. The special guests were Prof. Navdeep Singh Tung, Deptt. of Psychology GNDU Amritsar and Prof. Vandana Sharma, Former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala. Conference Convener Dr. Ashmeen Kaur gave a brief introduction of the conference. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen welcomed the guests and said that India is lagging behind in one aspect, i.e. character building. We must give our 100% in this aspect only then India can become a super power. She conveyed the message of President, DAVCMC Padamshri Dr. Punam Suri and said that it is the wish of Dr. Suri to send the resolutions of this conference to the Ministry. Dr. Punam Suri also congratulated the organizers of the conference. Keynote speaker Dr. Badrinarayanan Gopalkrishnan said that U.N. has given some Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) which are goals of the millennium. Inequality is there in society because of which there are the richest as well as the poorest people in the society. He further stated that use of renewable energy is the need of the hour. For a tropical country like India, use of renewable energy is easy and important. Talking about financial aspects, he said that in the newspapers everyday, we read so many sad stories of farmers committing suicides. The reason is lack of resources of credit. So, the policies regarding this are to be reframed. Chief Guest Prof. S.S. Johl said that aspect of disparity is very serious, which needs to be discussed. We are consuming natural resources at the cost of next generation. On social side, there is a big divide on the basis of caste and religion. Social integration is missing now a days and culture is also being degraded. Through such conferences, all these issues can be discussed. On this occasion, ‘International Journal of Scientific and Social Research’ was also released, which is a joint publication of HMV and Academy for International Science and Research, U.K. Vote of thanks was extended by Chairman, Local Committee Justice (Retd.) Sh. N.K. Sud. During inaugural ceremony, Conference Convener Ms. Shallu Batra, LC members Dr. Pawan Gupta, Sh. Kundan Lal Aggarwal, Dr. Sushma Chawla, Prof. Jagir Kahlon, Punjabi Writer from Toronto, Sh. Mohan Gill, Punjabi Writer, Canada, Mrs. Nita Malik, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Mrs. Chandrika, Mrs. Jyotika Minhas, Mrs. Alka, Dr. Jivan Devi, Dr. Sharanjit were also present. In technical sessions, various research papers were read by delegates.
