Jalandhar 31 August (Jaswinder Azad)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar, a festival celebrating literature and the finer sensibilities of the life was organized by the P.G Department of English. The Patron of the event was President Arya Shiksha Mandal Sh. Chander Mohan. The Chairperson Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi welcomed all guests and the participating teams warmly. She said that humanity today needed emotional intelligence, spiritual sensibility and moral self development as much as technical expertise which literature would help to inculcate. The chief guest of the inaugural session was Dr. Iqbal Singh, Ex.Lt. Governor Puducherry. Prof. Suresh Seth, a man of letters made the occasion distinguished by his presence as a Guest of Honor. Dr. Jasveera from Govt. College Hoshiarpur, Ms. Mohini Sharda Ex HOD Department of English KMV Jalandhar, were also among the luminaries. The Inter College list of competitions on the occasion based on English literature included Dramatic enactment of a Scene, Literary Fancy Dress, English Poem Recitation, Quiz, Portrait Making of a literary Figure, Double Dealer, English Song etc. Dr. Narinder Sharma from DAVIET, Ms. Charan Sikka, Ms. Suruchi, Ms. Satinder, Dr. Madhumeet, Ms. Ritu and Mr. Yogeshwar were the judges for the seven different events. Contestants from many different colleges across Punjab and Chandigarh including most of the local colleges participated in the unique festival with enthusiasm. The total Number of participants was about 250.
Seeing the level of competitions and the intellectual demand of the guests, it was promised that multilingual literary festival would be organized by Kanya Maha Vidyalaya in future. Sh. Chander Mohan, President, KMV Managing Committee graced the occasion of Valedictory as the Chief Guest. Addressing the participants, he said that today’s youth needs to connect with literature and the programmes like Litmania prove to be instrumental in this objective. The overall trophy was won by KMV Jalandhar but being the host college KMV surrendered it to Khalsa College Amritsar. The Runner’s up trophy was bagged by HMV, Jalandhar.
Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the convener of the events, Head, Department of English Mrs. Seema Jain and the organizing Secretaries Dr. Shalini Gulati and Dr. Reena Sharma for having organized such a well-placed and thrilling event. She also appreciated the hard work of the team of Department of English and the student organizers Ms. Navjot, Ms. Priya Kaushal and Ms. Kamakshi for their sincere and whole hearted involvement in the event.
