Rakhi Sakhi celebrated in HMV

Jalandhar 24 August (Gurkirat Singh)- Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated the indigenous festival of Rakshabandhan today, but with a difference. Under the guidance of the Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, the Innovation Cell and Women Empowerment cell celebrated the festival by tying organic rakhis, on this occasion, Mrs Aashika Jain, Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation was the Chief Guest. She tied Rakhi to Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and Principal Dr. Sareen tied rakhi to her. Rakhis were tied by the girls to each other. Sharing the concept of this celebration, Dr Ramnita Sharda, Dean Innovation and In-charge Women Empowerment Cell, told students that we have to understand the concept of Raksha Bandhan. The girls have to stand up for themselves and for each other if we wish to create an egalitarian society. The women have always been told to look up to men for protection and women have been pitched against each other as competitors, she emphasized that there has to be a shift from competition to camaraderie; peer pressure to peer support; and girls waiting for someone to save them to girls standing up for themselves and each other. She said that celebrating Rakhi by tying Organic Rakhis, the students have further saved the environment and cottage industry, as they have helped tribal women of Madhya Pradesh and  women from Maharashta whose hand made rakhis were used. She said by doing this we have also further strengthened the ties between recently formed Buddy Groups. The students also took a pledge to stand by each other in all times. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen felicitated the Innovation cell for their yet another innovative practice and added that women must stand up for each other. Apart from physical protection what is required the most in present time is the mental and emotional support which can prevent to many unpleasant life situations. She encouraged girls to stand up for one another. Chief guest Mrs. Aashika Jain, the Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation said that this is a unique endeavour by HMV and must be replicated at the district as well as state level. Addressing the young students she said that this is the best time to channelize their energy in grooming themselves in all possible spheres of learning. She also gave the name ‘Rakhi Sakhi’ to this event.
