2-day Sitar Workshop by Pandit Prateek Chaudhuri in HMV

Jalandhar 16 September (Jaswinder Azad)- A 2-day Sitar workshop was inaugurated in Music department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya.  The resource person was Sitar Maestro Pandit Prateek Chaudhuri, son of Padam Bhushan Pandit Debu Chaudhuri.  He is the successor of Senia Tradition of Mian Tansen and has been ranked as top class artist of India by National Television and Radio.   He has performed in front of Bill Clinton, Dr. Abdul Kalam, Smt. Pratibha Patil and in all parts of the world including USA, England, Spain, Italy, Hongkong, Greece, France, Syria, Norway, Canada etc.  He has a group named ‘Sitar Ecstasy’. Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen welcomed him and said that music is the soul of Indian traditions and it is very important for the Indians to remain attached to their roots.  Head of Music Instrumental department Dr. Jyoti Mittu said that it is a unique opportunity for the students of performing arts to learn from such great maestro.  Pandit Prateek Chaudhuri, Professor University of Delhi gave a brilliant performance in front of students and taught them Pilu Raag, Raag Miyan Malhar and Raag Megh Malhar.  Dr. Prem Sagar also performed on this occasion.  Saraswati Vandana was presented by the students of music department.  Dr. Santosh Khanna, Mrs. Aruna Walia and students of music department were also present.  Tabla was played by Mr. Ashok.  The stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia.
