Deputy Commissioner directs banks to follow instructions regarding cash withdrawal for wedding

  • Only PAN card and Self declaration needed
  • No need for any attestation by DC/SDM or any other authority
Jalandhar 18 November (Jaswinder Azad)- Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar Mr. Kamal Kishor Yadav has directed the lead Bank Manager to ensure the implementation of Union Government instructions regarding cash withdrawal for wedding. He made it clear that as per the fresh guidelines issued by the Union Government to banks, only PAN card and and self declaration needed for withdrawal of Rs. 2.50 lakh cash for marriage and there was no need for any attested application by the Deputy Commission concerned or by any other authority in this regard.
The Deputy Commissioner said that it has come to the notice that many banks are refusing or unaware of the latest instruction of the Govt. Of India regarding withdrawal of cash for wedding expenses. Besides that banks are insisting on further documentation such as attestation or forwarding letter from the DC/SDM for case withdrawal, which is not mandated as per the fresh guidelines by the union government.  
He said that as per the guidelines families celebrating wedding could draw upto Rs. 2.50 lakh in cash from their own bank account. The amount can be drawn only by either of the parents of the person getting married. Only one of them will be permitted to draw this amount. The limit of Rs. 2.5 lacs will apply separately to the girl’s family and the boys family. He also made it clear that the person drawing such amount has to furnish the PAN detail and a self declaration will have to be submitted by a person to the effect of only one person from his/her family is drawing the amount. He said that it is imperative that all the banks must follow the instructions of the Government of India and the Lead District Manager must communicate these to the banks and for compliance.
