Jalandhar 3 November (Jaswinder Azad)- Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya is organizing Model United Nations Conference (HMV MUN) from 4th to 6th November in its premises in collaboration with Queen Bees, India. It is an extra curricular activity in which students typically role play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. The Director of the conference and Principal of the college Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen told that the Chief Patron of the conference is Dr. Punam Suri, President DAV CMC New Delhi and Patron is Justice (Retd.) Sh. N.K. Sud, Vice President DAV CMC and Chairman Local Committee. This conference is being organized under their able guidance and it is the first MUN being organized by any college under DAV College Managing Committee. She further told that this conference envisages providing platform to young thinking minds to express their ideas. Through MUN, participants will learn a lot about international politics. MUN at HMV is hosting both a high school and college level conference.
Conference Coordinator Mrs. Ramnita Saini Sharda told that HMV MUN 2016 will host 15 committees to bring out the best debating, diplomatic and leadership skills in the students and give a new dimension to the education system and exposure in Punjab by holding this international conference. The committees are UN General Assembly Disarmament and International Security Committee, UN General Assembly Social Humanitarian and Cultural Committee, All India Political Parties Meet, UN Commission on the status of women, UN International Atomic Energy Agency, UN Security Council, India Pakistan Joint Committee, UN Economic &^ Social Council, UN Human Rights Council, Punjab Vidhansabha, UN Development Programme, European Union Continuous Crisis Committee, UN General Assembly Sixth Committee (Legal) and UN International Children’s Emergency Fund.
In this conference, the delegates will be representing member states of UN or unique characters as they face either preplanned topic or unpredictable crisis – both of which test their skills in diplomacy. The Secretary General HMV MUN is Sanat Arora, Director General is Shivranjit Sharda, Deputy Secretary General is Yashuti Sharma and Convener is Rajwinder Kaur. On the spot registration can also be done on 4th November. About 600 delegates from all over Punjab, Chandigarh and Delhi and some other states have already registered themselves for this conference. Its Executive Board constitutes experienced Munners from across the country. Students have been given mock sessions and the preparation has been made for a grand event.
