Jalandhar 6 March (Jaswinder Azad)- Global Congress on Sustainable Development : Challenges & Perspectives was inaugurated on 6th March, 2017 at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. The Chief guest of the inaugural session was Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma, Director (Colleges), DAVCMC New Delhi. Dr. R.R. Singh was the Guest of Honour on this occasion. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen accorded a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and esteemed dignitaries from as many as 27 countries. She highlighted the commendable achievements of the college with stress on ‘Vasudhev Kutumbkam’ i.e. the whole world is one family. Programme Coordinator Mrs. Ramnita Saini Sharda gave concept note of the congress and said that we have depleted our planet and the possibility of survival is less. Therefore, sustainable development is not only the need of the hour, but it is the basic requirement. Chief guest Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma, Director (Colleges) DAVCMC said that the world is fast changing and we have to keep pace with changing scenario. “The deliberations of this congress will open new paths for sustainable development”, he said. He also prayed to the Almighty for the bright future of all the countries.
Ms. Maryam from Nigeria gave keynote address on the topic ‘Perspectives and Challenges of Women Entrepreneurs in Nigeria in which she talked about the role of Nigerian Women in sustainable development. The delegates of Ghana celebrated 60th Independence Day of Ghana by singing their National Anthem. They were felicitated by Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen with bouquet of flowers. Scaling new Zeniths in learning, the Multimedia department of HMV launched HMV E-learning Mobile App. On this occasion, the App was launched by Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma and his wife Mrs. Kusum Sharma, Dr. R.R. Singh, Ms. Maryam, Justice (Retd.) N.K. Sud, Dr. Ajay Sareen, Dean Academics Mrs. Meenakshi Syal, HOD Comp.Sc. Dr. Sangeeta Arora and HOD Multimedia Mr. Jagjit Bhatia. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen honoured all the distinguished guests with mementoes. Chairman Local Committee Justice (Retd.) N.K. Sud gave vote of thanks. The students of the college entertained the guests by presenting Folk Dance on this occasion. Earlier in the day, during morning assembly Dr. R.R. Singh motivated the students to have a positive attitude towards life. After tea break, 4 parallel sessions were held. The topics of these sessions were Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development, Chemical Industries and Sustainable Development, Skill Development and Sustainable Development and Society, Culture and Sustainable Development. In the first technical session, Dr. Kanwaldeep Kaur and Dr. Minakshi Duggal gave presentation which was followed by panel discussion by the delegates of different countries. In the second technical session, Dr. Ekta Khosla and Dr. Anjana Bhatia conducted the session. All the delegates were united in their views that environment is facing harm due to fossil fuels, solid wastes, plastic wastes and polluted water. In the third technical session, sustainable development in fashion, textiles, fine arts and multimedia was discussed. Mr. Jagjit Bhatia, Dr. Rakhi Mehta and Mrs. Navneeta gave their presentations. In the fourth technical session, Mrs. Ramnita Saini Sharda and Dr. Ashmeen talked about sustainable development in context of society and culture. After lunch, the delegates took a round of the college. They visited Sada Virsa Sada Maan Heritage Centre, Library, Science Labs, Skill Development Centre and Playgrounds of the college.
In the valedictory session, Commissioner of Police IPS Arpit Shukla made his presence along with his wife Mrs. Shruti Shukla as chief guest. Mrs. Vani Vij, Social Activist and Entrepreneur was the Guest of Honour. Sh. Arvind Ghai, Secretary, DAVCMC & Member Local Committee, Dr. Sushma Chawla, Sh. Surendra Seth, Dr. Pawan Gupta and Mr. Vipan Jhanji also graced the occasion. Delegates of the Global Congress, Mr. Arshad Mansoor from Afghanistan, Mr. Charles from Namibia and Mr. Alfred from Malawi gave their impressions about the Global Congress. Programme Coordinator Mrs. Ramnita Saini Sharda presented the glimpses of Congress and said that the delegates also visited Golden Temple Amritsar and Shree Devi Talab Mandir Jalandhar. All the dignitaries, delegates and students present in the hall took a pledge for sustainable development. Mrs. Shruti Shukla addressed the delegates and students and said that education is the best tool to bring sustainable development. She also talked about the historical perspective of sustainable development and said that economy, ecology and value system are required for sustainable development. Chief guest IPS Arpit Shukla, Commissioner of Police said that we should value things that God has given us free of cost. The message of conservation of resources should be propagated.
