Jalandhar 17 March (Jaswinder Azad)- In sync with the global need of empowering youth with Skill Development for sustainable economic growth in the present era, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage Institution, Jalandhar organized a two-day International Conference on “Skill Development in Education” under the aegis of DDU Kaushal Kendra awarded by MHRD, Govt. of India. The Key-note Speaker, Dr. Paul Wilson, General Manager, TAFE, Queensland East Coast, Australia, Chief Guest Prof. Chirstopher Musick, Associate Vice-President of International Affairs, Chatham University, USA. Guests of Honour, Dr. Marta Fulop, Head, Dept.of Social and Cultural Psychology, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Hungary and Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Dean College Development Council, GNDU, Asr. Were accorded floral felicitations by the President, College Managing Committee Sh. Chander Mohanji, Gen. Secretary KMV Managing Committee Sh. Alok Sondhi and the college Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi on this occasion.
In his introductory address, Sh. Chander Mohanji, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal remarked that in the present scenario of excessive automation, institution of higher education need to promote and encourage native skills of India also by integrating them in education system. He lauded the pivotal role played by Kanya Maha Vidyalaya in building ‘Skill India’ through its various study centres and programmes on the campus.
Welcoming the dignitaries in her inaugural address, the college Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi stated that the national vision of Indian Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi makes it imperative and pertinent for higher education to evolve a sustainable model of education in India and make it ‘skill Capital of World’. In his Key-note address, Dr. Paul Wilson, General Manager, TAFE, Queensland East Coast, Australia, delved upon the significant role of organizational cultural leadership in Skills Development in Education. Despite so much of globalized world, organizational cultural leadership is a skill still confronted with challenging issues like Bureaucracy, Communication, Cultural Values, Indulgences & restraints within a culture etc. The Chief Guest Mr. Christopher Musick, Chatham University, USA, sharing his experiences, opined that exploring the world characterized by variety and diversity, while transcending the barriers of cultures, societies, professional worlds is also a skill. This assimilated experience acquired skillfully, coupled with passion for one’s professional can contribute at individual level for sustainable development of any country.
Dr. Marta Fulop, the Guest of Honour, deliberated upon the need of creating opportunities for teaming millions to enable them learn even within their limited environment. Motivation and individual enterprise singularly or as a dialogic interaction between individuals and organizations can help learners to have goal-oriented education.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Dean College Development Council, GNDU shared his insights that CHANGE is the buzz word and leaders in higher education, while overcoming the resistance to change, need to embrace autonomy. Responding to the needs of global economy, it is imperative to integrate more vocation-based programmes into the education system to produce skilled workforce. The inaugural session concluded with a floral vote of thanks proposed by the conveners of the conference Mrs. Suman Khurana and Dr. Madhumeet jointly. Dr. Sushma Chawla, Vice President, KMV Managing Committee alongwith other distinguished members of KMV Managing Commtitee Mrs. Sushila Bhagat, Mrs. Neeru Kapoor, Dr. S.P Gupta and Sh. Kundal Lal Aggarwal were also present at the inaugural session.
The first plenary session chaired by Dr. Paul Wilson, General Manager, TAFE, Australia had three invited talks. Dr. Marta Fulop, Head, Dept. of Social and Cultural Psychology, Hungry spoke on the role of teachers who can ignite spark of motivation among learners and thus enable them realize their goal-oriented knowledge acquisition. Invited Speaker Maj Gen (retd.) Prof. (Dr.) G.G. Dwivedi, Dean, International Studies, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh delivered his talk on Education-Skill Development Integration through Disruptive innovation. Delving into education challenges Prof. Dwivedi explained that disruptive innovation requires adaptive approach, change of mindset, employing learning Management System, aligning industry-academic coordinates and campus to corporate.
The third invited talk by Dr. Andres Aspling, Chairman, International Advisory Board of Turku School of Economics, Turku University, Finland was delivered on learning at the Centre of Shaping the Future. A global community of action and learning needs to be formed by globally responsible leaders as their shared responsibility with special reference to corporate management.
The plenary session was followed by parallel sessions chaired by Dr. Suresh Seth, renowned Hindi author, Former Principal & Editor, Dainik Savera, Dr. Anu H. Gupta, Asstt. Prof. Univ. Inst. & Fashion Technology & Vocational Development, Pb. University, Chandigarh, Dr. Paramjit Sandhu, Vice Principal & Head, Dept. of Public Administration, Govt. Arts & Sports College, Jalandhar, Dr. Rupali Batra, Asstt. Prof. PTU, Jalandhar, Mr. Raman K Meer, Deputy Directory, Dainik Bhaskar, Jalandhar, Mr. Amit Sharma, Resident Editor, Dainik Jagran, Mrs. Seema Jain, Head, PG Dept. of English, KMV, Dr. Madhumeet, Dean, Student Welfare KMV and Dr. Neeraj Maini, PG Dept. of Commerce and Business Administration. As many as 110 paper presentation were made by scholars from 20 states of India.
