- Punjab to Implement Energy Saving Measures in Buildings
Jalandhar 27 March (Jaswinder Azad)- A one day training program on Punjab Energy Conservation Building Programme (ECBC) was held today at CT Institute of Architecture and Planning (CTIAP) at under the patronage of CT Group of Institutions at its Shahpur Campus Jalandhar. It is an initiative of Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) in collaboration with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Global Environment Fund (GEF) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) and National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research are jointly organizing these 37 programmes in the State of Punjab to impart training on newly-passed Punjab Energy Conservation Building Code. Punjab is among the first 10 state in the country where this code will be implemented.
S. Charanjit Singh Channi (Chairman, CT Group of Institutions), Mr. Manbir Singh (Managing Director, CT Group of Institutions) inaugurated the event in the presence of other dignitaries. Er. Gautam Kocher (Principal, CT Institute of Technology) presented the bouquet to the Chief Guest of the programme. Ar. Aman Makol, Ar. Surinder Bahga, Engineer Kushagra Juneja, Engineer Kishan Khatri introduced the theme of the programme.
Officials from Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) explained on the steps being taken by their organization about promoting non-conventional energy. S. Raminder Singh from PEDA explained about efforts being made by newly established ECBC cell in PEDA for implementation of this code in state. He said, “The solar energy consumption is very conventional in saving energy. It has also been learnt that the amount use in set up solar power plant can be recover in just 5 years only which can be more functional and reliable for economically as well.” PEDA had given the assignment to Indian Institute of Architects, Chandigarh-Punjab Chapter. He also informed that after many meetings, discussions and deliberations the final draft of this code was prepared and submitted to Government of Punjab for approval. In first phase, code was prepared and its book is published and now a campaign has been launched to train architects, builders, planners and other stake holders.
Er. Ashish Kapoor (NITTTR) said as per the records of Government of India 2012, 34884 villages are without electricity while almost 59% people (713 million families) are using fuel food for cooking & forgoing productive activities. But the energy conservation is very important which can be achieved through ECBC. S. Charanjit Singh Channi (Chairman, CT Group of Institutions) appreciated the initiative by the authorities for this wonderful project.
