Jalandhar 19 March (Jaswinder Azad)- In accordance with the global need of empowering youth with skill development for sustainable global economic growth, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya -The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar organized a two-day International Conference on ‘Skill Development in Education’ under the aegis of DDU Kaushal Kendra, MHRD, Govt.of India. Acclaimed academicians from 8 countries across the globe and 20 different states of India attended the conference during which more that 230 paper presenters & 80+ delegates attended the conference. The Key-note Speaker, Dr. Paul Wilson, General Manager, TAFE, Queensland East Coast, Australia, Chief Guest Prof. Chirstopher Musick, Associate Vice-President of International Affairs, Chatham University, USA. Guests of Honour, Dr. Marta Fulop, Head, Dept.of Social and Cultural Psychology, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Hungary and Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Dean College Development Council, GNDU, Asr. Were the prominent dignitaries during the inaugural session. Sh. Chander Mohanji, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal remarked that in the present scenario of excessive automation, institution of higher education need to promote and encourage native skills of India also by integrating them in education system. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi stated that the national vision of Indian Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi makes it imperative and pertinent for higher education to evolve a sustainable model of education in India and make it ‘skill Capital of World’. Dr. Marta Fulop, the Guest of Honour, deliberated upon the need of creating opportunities for teaming millions to enable them learn even within their limited environment. Motivation and individual enterprise singularly or as a dialogic interaction between individuals and organizations can help learners to have goal-oriented education. Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Dean College Development Council, GNDU shared his insights that CHANGE is the buzz word and leaders in higher education, while overcoming the resistance to change, need to embrace autonomy. Dr. Sushma Chawla, Vice President, KMV Managing Committee alongwith other distinguished members of KMV Managing Commtitee Mrs. Sushila Bhagat, Mrs. Neeru Kapoor, Dr. S.P Gupta and Sh. Kundal Lal Aggarwal were also present at the inaugural session. During the first day of The first plenary session chaired by Dr. Paul Wilson, General Manager, TAFE, Australia. Dr. Marta Fulop, Hungry spoke on the role of teachers. Invited Speaker Maj Gen (retd.) Prof. (Dr.) G.G. Dwivedi, Dean, International Studies, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh delivered his talk on Education-Skill Development Integration through Disruptive innovation. The third invited talk by Dr. Andres Aspling, Turku University, Finland delivered talk on globally responsible leaders as their shared responsibility with special reference to corporate management. The plenary session was followed by parallel sessions chaired by the eminent academicians. As many as 110 paper presentation were made by scholars from 20 states of India during the proceedings of first day. Day one’s long academic proceeding of ICSD-17 on Skill Development in Education concluded in a relaxing, refreshing cultural Bonanza Set against the soft backdrop of a blooming spring garden. The evening kick started with the energetic, immediately engrossing Punjabi folk dance jagoo. The first presentation of the cultural evening was a classical kathak dance by Ms. Jyotika. It was an invocation to lord Shiva. Fashion show started with parampara round showcased by the B.Sc. F.D. Sem-VI students. The second was floral cluster round. The third corporate chick round was a refreshing change from the first two rounds. Round ‘Sweet Dreams’ by B.A. VIth semester FDGC was of sleepwear. The charishma round displayed skirts in various silhouettes & cuts totally formal & different. The clean cuts, elegant demeanour of the models impressed one and all. The fashion show restarted with a dedication to a loving mother daughter relationship round titled Mama’s shoes. The next round by students of Pragatishala was inspired by nature. It was all about textile printing. An interesting Rang Rasiya round set the stage ablaze with vibrant-colours of holi on lehngas & men’s wear. The winding of the show was Cleopatra’s Paradise of a sustainable collection using muslin, old sarees and dupattas. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of the PG Dept. of Fashion Designing. Day 2 of the International Conference on Skill Development witnessed more presentations from across the globe in an effort to explore more routes to Skill Development. The morning plenary session chaired by Dr. Andres Aspling (International Advisory Board, Turku University, Finland. Ms. Hanen Trabelsi French teacher was the first speaker for the day. She also shared that many Arab Women did not have the right to vote even though their country boasted of a type of democratic set-up. Dr. Jones Gordon Gyori Assoc. Prof. Centre for Intercultural Psychology, Budapest Hungary spoken next on ‘Brain, Mind, Cognition, Intelligence Thinking & Knowledge. Christopher Musick Associate Vice President of International Affairs, Chatham University USA spoke next on the opportunities available to absorb skills being taught abroad and the practical measures to be taken for the same. Nikhil Kumar, Education Officer, UGC, New Delhi spoke about skilling alongwith general education through skill enhancement courses, ability enhancement courses and also career oriented selection & implementations of these courses and linking them to advanced placement by identification of industry partners and their intervention at all basic stages of the course. Ms. Eliza teacher of spoken English & IELTS teacher at KMV School of Communication. She talked about the process of acquiring knowledge in stages like remembering, understanding, applying analyzing, evaluating and then creating.
The final session of ICSD-17 ‘The Valedictory Ceremony’ began with a musical rendition by Ms. Poonam from the Department of Music. Dr. Anders Aspling, Chairman, International Advisory Board of Turku School of Economics, Turku University, Finland participated as the Chief Guest for the valedictory session. Dr. Nikhil Kumar, Education Officer, UGC, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour alongwith Dr. Jonas Gordan Gyori for the same. The Patron’s resolution was made by Sh. Chander Mohan President, Arya Shiksha Mandal. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Sh. Alok Sondhi, General Secretary, Arya Shiksha Mandal who profusely thanked all the intellectuals from across the globe for having spared time to share their views on an issue of such vital importance. Mrs. Rashmi Sharma, PG Department of Commerce presented the report of two-day proceedings of the International Conference. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the organizer for the successful completion of the two-day International Conference. She also lauded the untiring efforts of the faculty of KMV.
