· MOVE AIMED AT CHECKING ADULTERATION OF FOOD ITEMS IN DISTRICT
Jalandhar 10 July (Jaswinder Azad)- ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ campaign under the ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’ today gained momentum as the hi-tech Food Testing Van of the Health department today tested samples of 29 food items in the Jalandhar Cantt locality for checking adulteration of food.
The team led by District Health Officer Dr. Balwinder Singh, Food Safety Officer Mrs. Rashu Mahajan and others today tested 29 samples of food including four of milk samples, three of milk cream, three of cheese, five of Pure Ghee, one of butter, one of ice-cream, three of cold drink, one of wheat flour, one of sugar, one of red spices, one of turmeric powder, one of coriander power, one of water, one of salt and two of juice. During the sample testing at Food Testing van in one sample of milk sugar was traced whereas in two samples quantity of water was found in abundance. Likewise, in sample of sugar traces of soil were found during the testing.
Meanwhile, Dr. Balwinder Singh said that the main motive of sample testing by the van was to ensure that people get good quality of hygienic food besides checking its adulteration. He said that this ultra modern van was capable of detecting adulteration of food on the spot, which could help the people in checking the quality of food being consumed by them. The District Health Officer further said that the sampling of food through this van would continue in coming days also to ensure that people of the district only consume healthy food. On the occasion Mr. Hardev Singh, Mr. Sarabjeet Lal and others were also present.
