Jalandhar 26 March (Gurkirat Singh)- Under the campaign run by the NGO Alfa Mahendru Foundation to create awareness among the society against female foeticide, a seminar on the topic ‘Save the girl child’was organised at Apeejay Institute of Management Technical Campus, Jalandhar.Mr. Arpit Shukla, IGP, Jalandhar was the chief guest for the occasion.Dr.Navjot Kaur, Principal , Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, was also present as a keynote speaker. Shri Amit Maini, social Worker was the guest of honour. Mr. MeharLalBains, Senior Manager, Punjab National Bank was also present on the occasion. Addressing the seminar, Mr. Arpit Shukla, IGP Jalandhar, motivated the youth to take a pledge, for raising their voice against the exploitation of women in the society. He also assured of the unconditional support from media and government for such causes. He also urged the society and youngsters to be aware about the crime and social issue to make our society a humble place for women. Dr.Navjot Kaur, Principal ,Khalsa College for Women, gave reference from history of India, citing the plight of woman in ancient times. Highlighting the various sectors, Military, Navy, Corporate, Entrepreneurship, she also stressed that there is not any sector that has been untouched by women. It has been a very tough journey that women has covered. Chairman of Alfa Mahinderu Foundation, Mr. Ramesh Mahendru, said that the foundation has been named after his daughter’s name Alfa Mahendru, a journalist who died in a road accident. He mentioned about the various initiatives taken by the NGO, to curb this menace. Dr. Rajesh Bagga presented mementos to all the guests present on the occasion. He also appreciated the efforts made by the NGO to create awareness in the society. Motivating the students Dr.Bagga focused on the need to organise such seminars in rural areas, where due to lack of education, such crimes are very common.
