Jalandhar 14 August (Jaswinder Azad)- Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with much fan fare and patriotic fervor. Under the aegis of the PG Department of History, a colourful and vibrant programme was organised in the college auditorium. Students gave spellbound performances and glued the audience to their seats for more than one and half hours. Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra inaugurated the programme by paying homage to patriots who laid their lives for the cause of Indian independence. Amateur actors of different departments presented a play Azad Bharat ki Tasveer depicting various social ills of present times. Moved by their impressive performances audience became emotional. Anil, Harman and Rahul sung patriotic songs and poems. Principal in his address called the students to study assiduously and contribute for the betterment of society. This freedom is a precious gift of fearless patriots and it becomes our duty to preserve its sanctity in letter and spirit. Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Jasreen Kaur said that students have enormous responsibilities on their shoulders. It is their duty to preserve the secular traditions of the motherland. She appealed them not to be swayed by the communal and casteist overtones of the vested interests. Dr. Suman Chopra, Head of the Department, taking examples from the Indian freedom struggle inspired the students to serve the nation by excelling in their chosen careers. On this occasion, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Dr. Karanbir Singh, Prof. Sandeep Kaur, Prof. Sooraj Bhagat and other staff members were also present.
