Jalandhar 9 August (Jaswinder Azad)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, the Autonomous and Heritage Institution, Jalandhar promotion of Indian Culture and Art forms is a routine practice in the form of Spic-Macay functions. The renowned Sitar Player Padma Shri Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan in collaboration with Spic Macay played Sitar and enthralled the audience with his divine performance. Ustad Shahid Parvez belongs to the 7th Generation of Itawa Gharana. The spectacular performance was felicitated with a floral welcome by Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi who also honored him with a moments. Addressing the audience Ustad Parvez Khan said that Indian Classical Music has a very special place in the world of Music as it is made unique by its depth and sweetness. Playing the pure form of Raag Sarang the Ustad touched the musical cords of everybody’s heart. It is worth mentioning that he has also learnt Tabla and Vocal Music from his Maternal Uncle Hafiz Khan and then from Manu Khan of Delhi Gharana. Renowned Names likes Ilayat Khan, Vilayat Khan, Imdad Khan, also belong to this illustrious family. Having performed in USA, England, Europe, Canada, Soviet Union, Middle East, Africa and Australia, the Ustad as a performer is a regular feature at all important music festivals. He has many CD’s, DVD’s, audio as well as video to his credit. He is recipient of many awards like Padma Shri, Sangeet Natak Academy Award, AIR Top Grade Artist award, Sur Sringar Award, Kumar Gandharv, Samman. At the conclusion Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi thanked Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and the accompanist Tabla Player Hindole Majumdar. She also congratulated the organizers for having organized a successful event.
