Jalandhar 6 May (Jaswinder Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya – The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar’s Dr. Neetu Chopra with Dr. Manmohan Singh, Dept. of Physics sanctioned a Project of an Amount of Rs.35 lacs from the Dept. of Science and Technology under the title of ‘Rare Earth doped tellurite and borate glass nanocomposites for photonic applications.’ Dr. Neetu Chopra is selected as Principal Investigator and Dr. Manmohan Singh as Co-Principal Investigator for this project. It is worth mentioning here that, in this project some special glasses will be prepared from tellurite and borate doped with rare earth (RE) ions. Such glasses will be studied for their modified optical properties for nonlinear optical and photonic applications. The combined effect of heat treatment and gamma irradiation will help to explore possible uses of these glass families in various applications from light emission to radiation protection. This can be very much useful in different types of laser light. Glass wares made from such glasses can be used as shield from harmful radiations and for storage of radioactive waste material. Under this project a research fellow will be appointed. An equipment of sophisticated instrument Spectrofluorophotometer is also sanctioned. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated Dept. of Physics for this achievement.
