Jalandhar 30 August (Jaswinder Azad)- After welcoming him with garlands , a proceeding was carried out in the entire college, where he was was accompanied by Principal Dr B B Sharma, Vice Principal Prof Vijay Gupta, Vice Orincipal Prof Vijay K Sareen, PRO Prof Manish Khanna, Dr Manu Sood , Prof Saurabh Raj,Coach prof Gurpreet singh and the entire College Athletic Council. Principal Dr B B Sharma quoted " we feel happy enough to hace our star amongst us, Manpreet, ramandeep and Harmanpreet are the Dav products who made it to the Olympics. They constructively used thier energy in their passion and received heights, and have become a source of inspiration for the rest.
Head of department Dr Manu Sood Quoted "Harmanpreet has been a product of our department and was very particular about his game and practice sessions . I am happy to see him reach good heights and hope he wins a medal in the next olympics. Further he told that
Harmanpreet joined the Surjit Singh Hockey academy in Jalandhar in 2011 with ambitions of becoming a forward and learnt the tricks of the trade from Gaganpreet Singh and Sukhjeet Singh.. He first came into the limelight at the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia last year when he scored nine goals in the competition while playing for India U21, including a brace in the final which clinched the tie for his side. For his stellar performance, he was named the Player of the Tournament as well. He backed that performance with yet another strong showing at the Australia that followed, scoring 7 goals in 5 matches.He was picked by the Dabang Mumbai in the Hockey India League auctions for a sum of $51,000 in September. Although India finished runners-up, Harmanpreet netted in a brace in the semifinals of the 2015 Sultan of Junior Cup against hosts Malaysia which helped the team qualify for the final. He also scored in the 1-0 win against Australia in the League stage of the tournament. Harmanpreet was the star once again for India at the Junior Men’s Asia Cup, scoring an astounding 15 goals, including 4 in the final against arch-rivals Pakistan to help his side win the tournament.
Harmanpreet at this occasion quoted "I feel blessed and happy with such a warm gesture , its a moment of pride when your countrymen and your Alma mater acknowledge you . I promise to fetch a medal for my Nation in the next olympics".
