Jalandhar 30 August (Jaswinder Azad)- Students and staff here at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar today celebrated National Sports Day. Dedicated to legendary Hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand, the event included a cross country race participated in by around 100 students of the college. Asian Gold medalist Lehmbar Singh Mander, Chief Guest of the occasion was given a flowery welcome by Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra and Dr. Jaspal Singh, Head, Department of Physical Education. Mukhshinder Singh, Navdeep Singh and Kamalpreet Singh occupied the podium place in the results of the Cross Country race while the Athletics Group claimed the overall trophy. The winners were duly honored and encouraged by the chief guest to continue making such efforts in the field of Sports.
Speaking to the present, college Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra emphasized the role of Sports and Sportsmen in a country like India where there is not dearth of talent. He also informed that the college sportsmen will be participating in 88 various events to be this session while also adding that the College was committed the purpose of providing modern sports facilities as well as class training to the college players. Vote of thanks for this occasion was made by Dr SS Bains, Dean Sports, which was also witnessed by Prof Tarsem Singh, Gundeep Kumar Olympian, Prof GS Buttar, Prof. MS Lehal, Sarabjit Kumar and Varinder Thapar.
