NEW DELHI, Sep 3 (Bureau)- A scandal of sexual exploitation involving an aide of veteran DSGMC leader Kulmohan Singh completes the revival of the dark phase of Mahant control over Sikh religious institutions, Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi chief Paramjit Singh Sarna has observed. "First we saw how premier Sikh institutions closed down one after the other because of deeply-entrenched corruption, inefficiency and conspiracy. Now, we are seeing perverts within the DSGMC exploiting potential female sexually. This shows our religious structure has once again come under the total stranglehold of Mahants, who are worse than Narain Das," the SADD president told a news conference here. His comments came in the wake of a woman's complaint against an aide of Mr Kulmohan Singh, who the DSGMC projects as its scholarly face. Mr Singh is also the host of Kaun Banega Gursikh Pyara show.
"Major villains loyal to the corrupt Badals are abusing religion for their own ends at the DSGMC. Like Mahant Narayan Das, they have reduced our Sikh institutions in Delhi into a base of their creepy and sleazy acts," S. Sarna noted. "Our Sikh institutions have gone bankrupt. It's high time we emancipated our faith, at least in Delhi, from the present-day Mahants," the SADD president warned. "Are Badal stooges doing their best or worst to ensure people lose faith in gurdwaras. Unfortunately, that's what is exactly happening," S. Sarna noted.
The SADD leader cited a comprehensive history of church that suffered a blow to its credibility in the 20th and early 21st centuries because of a spate of sex scandals. "Sexual exploitation in religious orders has historically been fatal to faith. What has happened in the DSGMC cannot be downplayed as a stray incident of sexual exploitation by a random employee. The suspect is close to someone who is the face of the DSGMC. It appears to be a well-oiled racket, unfortunately, running within our religious organizations," S. Sarna cautioned. The SADD, he said, was moving the Delhi and the national commissions for women for an incisive probe. "That said, we would urge Kulmohan Singh and his boss Manjit Singh GK to step down from office at least till the investigations are over. Given their connections with the RSS and through it with AAP, they may try to influence both the probes if they remain in religious power," S. Sarna said. He, however, warned that sovereign Sikh thought would not pardon the heinous acts that have been taking place in Sikh religious institutions right under the watch of the Badals and their loyalists. "They can try their best to manipulate the system. But the community won't pardon them and won't let our institutions sink like the church because of sex scandals," warned S. Sarna.
The SADD president vowed to launch a thorough inquiry into all the acts of religious and moral turpitude -- from building idols, statutes or holograms of Sikh icons to depraved acts of sexual exploitation -- in the DSGMC if elected to run it. "Beware, we will not spare these lousy characters. They will be subject to tough legal and religious scrutiny," S. Sarna pledged.
