Jalandhar 4 October (Jaswinder Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar’s PG Dept. of Hindi recently organized an extension lecture on Bisham Sahni’s stories. The focus was on the Empathy shown to human condition in the present scenario, in the realistic stories of Bisham Sahni. The apt. resource person for the lecture was Dr. Tarsem Gujral who is famous for his powerful empathetic depiction of the present scenario of Punjab in Hindi Literature. Dr. Gujral is a famous poet, story writer, novelist, journalist and critic all rolled into one. In his lecture, addressing the students he talked of the stories of Bisham Sahni which elevated the feeling of sympathy to the level of spiritual and divine experience. He talked of stories like ‘Chief Ki Daavat’, Amritsar aa Gayaa, Dachi etc. The novel Pathar Dar Pathar and Tamas were also talked about in detail. He praised ‘Tamas’ as one of the most realistic and vocal depiction of the trauma of Pakistan. It was the sensitive portrayal of the experience of partition that made Bisham Sahni popular novelist. The head of PG Dept. of Hindi Dr. Vinod Kalra thanked the speaker for sharing his invaluable knowledge with the young students. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the Department of Hindi on having organized an extension lecture on such an interesting topic. She thanked the guest for having spared his precious time for the fruitful endeavour.
