Jalandhar 22 March (Jaswinder Azad)- DD Pant Botanical Society of PG Deptt. of Botany of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organized a two day Environment Awareness Drive. On first day of the drive, "International Forest Day" was celebrated. A pollution check campaign was organized to mark the event. ADCP Head Quarters Amneet Kondal was the Chief Guest of the occasion. ACP Traffic Digvijay Kapil along with his team from Traffic Deptt briefed the students about traffic rules and regulation. Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen welcomed the resource persons and asked the students to become responsible citizens of the country and keep the environment clean. ADCP Amneet Konal addressed the students & stressed on women empowerment & urged them to come forward and play their role in saving our environment. The pollution check certificates of 2 wheelers at subsidized rates for college staff & students were made.
On day two, World Water Day was celebrated in collaboration with Forest department, Phillaur. Sh. Churchill Kumar, IFS and Er. Sh. Rajesh Kumar Gulati, PFS were the motivational force behind this tree campaign. Environmentalist Mr. Narinder Singh Mand was the Chief Guest. Retd. Supdt. Sh. Ramesh Vij was the presiding officer. S. Harbhajan Singh, Divisional Accountant, Forest Deptt. was also present. Presiding Officer Sh. Ramesh Vij stressed on the importance of Water Conservation. He statistically explained that only 0.4% of water is available for drinking against population of 17.8%. The indiscriminate use of water no rain water harvesting & no sewage treatment plant has lead to going down of ground water level at an alarming rate. He gave small tips to save water.
The students planted 150 trees on the occasion and took oath to own responsibility of looking after them. Incharge of DD Pant Botanical Society Dr. Meena Sharma aware the students about the role of trees, water and mother earth. Dr. Shweta Chauhan gave vote of thanks. Stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia. Mrs. Jyoti Kaul, Dr. Neelam Sharma, Dr. Nitika Kapoor, Mr. Harpreet Singh and Mrs. Ramandeep Kaur were also present.
