HMV celebrated its Foundation Day

Jalandhar 7 April (Jaswinder Azad)- The 60th Foundation Day of biggest women institution of North India, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya was celebrated in its campus during special morning assembly.  The chief guest of the occasion was Chaudhary Surinder Singh, MLA Kartarpur.  Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen welcomed the chief guest and told about the historical background of the institution.  She said that in 1927, Mahatma Hans Raj Ji laid the foundation stone of this great institution in Lahore. After partition, in 1947, the college was shifted to Arya Samaj Bikrampura and on 7th April, 1957, the foundation stone of present campus was laid down by Sh. Jagannath Rao Bhonsle, Deputy Minister of Rehabilitation in Pt. Nehru’s Cabinet.  In Pakistan, Madam Thapar was the Principal of the college.  She said that an institution is not only made up of bricks and cement.  But it has the love, dedication and affection of its Principal, teachers and students.  She said that it is a matter of pride that our alumnae are residing all over the world.  The aim of HMV is to make the women educated so that they should understand their importance.  She said need of the hour is to make strong relations in society.  Chief Guest MLA Ch. Surinder Singh congratulated Principal and staff members of the college on this great day.  He said that DAV institutions are making continuous progress under the able leadership of Padamshree Dr. Punam Suri, President, DAVCMC, New Delhi.  He said that today is the era of Technology.  We should adopt positive points of this era and contribute in the development of our country, state and city.
On this Historic Day, HMV Visionary Foundation Club was launched in which more than 100 small courses will be offered to the students in nominal fees.  Dean Academics Dr. Minakshi Syal donated an Fixed Deposit to the college in the loving memory of her mother Smt. Raj Rani Thamman for scholarship to the students.
Chief guest MLA Ch. Surinder Singh also inaugurated HMV Chowk outside the college.  On this occasion, Langar was also distributed by staff members and students of the college.  Members of local committee Sh. S.N. Mayor, Sh. K.L. Aggarwal, Dr. Pawan Gupta, Dr. Sushma Chawla were also present.
