CT Group students develop Diesel-Dominator Bike

Jalandhar 25 May (Jaswinder Azad)- A diesel-powered two-wheeler has always been an attractive proposition. But potential customers have been put off by the heavy weight and the pollution, noise and vibration generated by the few such vehicles that made it to the market. But a group of Mechanical Engineering students of CT Polytechnic College have now developed Diesel motor vehicle to run on diesel without the drawbacks associated with a diesel engine by using four wheeler diesel engine . Moreover, the bike has no gears and it costs just Rs 34,000. Students namely Saurav Dogra, Saurav Syan, Prabhjot Singh, Suraj Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Sukhninder Singh and Sukhveer Singh developed the bike under the guidance of Jaspal Singh Basra. They said that in our previous series of diesel bike project making a traditional gearbox with shifting mechanism had been used i.e. replaced by variomatic transmission. This attempt of incorporating such feature makes the driving effortless as shifting of gear is diminished.
Students informed that a power unit consists of a robust four stroke 450 diesel (Continental) engine outsourced from a junkyard. The variable transmission used is basically from a imported Korean scooter name KINE blaze. The frame and wheels are also from the same unit. The driving and driven pulley ratio is first matched for final speed. A V-belt pulley delivers the power from engine to transmission pulley and a sealed unit further delivers the torque and speed as per load conditions. The bike consists of front disc and rear drum brakes. A crisp self start option turns the motor into life and the riding the bike is a real pleasure. The low C.G helps to maneuver the machine at the corners with a breeze; also the longer wheelbase depicts a cruiser stance. This experimental fusion of different engine & gearbox turns up to be very promising as the fuel efficiency has been significantly increased i.e. 60 kmpl.
Mr. Manbir Singh (Managing Director, CT Group) said that this is very astonishing as our students have developed this bike from four stroke 450 diesel (Continental) engine that makes lot of sound and gives noise pollution in the surroundings but our students have worked a step ahead in this parameter by creating a sound proof diesel bike.”
