Jalandhar 26 May (Jaswinder Azad)- Under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, the Faculty Development Programme being organized jointly by Depts of English, Hindi and Punjabi at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya reached its sixth day. The speaker, Dr. Hitesh Gandhi from University of Gujarat was given floral welcome bythe Conveners Mrs. Kawaljit Kaur (HOD, Punjabi) and Mrs. Mamta (HOD, English). Dr. Anuradha Chadha from GNDU Regional Campus, Ladhewali, Jalandhar chaired the session. Mrs. Sonia briefed the report of all the previous sessions of FDP extolling their worth and importance in the academic career of the audience. Dr. Nidhi Kochhar informed about the academic profile of Dr. Hitesh Gandhi. He spoke on ‘Relation between Film and Literature as Research Trend’. According to him, research can be of many types: comparative, feminism, ecocriticism and multidisciplinary. The recent trend, he believes, is multidisciplinary. He showed the movie Shatranj Ke Khiladi to bring his point home. He spoke in detail on the movie and explained how a text by Munshi Prem Chand was creatively transformed into a film by Satyajit Roy. Some multidisciplinary fields of research, according to him, are literature and psychology, literature and medicine, literature and engineering, et cetera. Dr. Anuradha Chadha, the chairperson of the session, thanked Dr. Gandhi for the valuable information he gave the audience.
In the afternoon session, Dr. Darya from School of Punjabi Studies, GNDU, Amritsar, expressed his views on ‘Impact of Globalization on Culture’ with special emphasis on materialism. Mr. Deepak from Govt College, Tanda, chaired the session. He said that culture comprises three basic needs, namely food, shelter and clothes. All the social activities of mankind – our eating habits, our folk dance, way of life - depend on one’s geographical conditions. The squalid aspect of contemporary scenario is that we have gradually become self-centred and lack compassion for others. In the last session of the day, Dr. Hitesh Gandhi continued his talk on interdisciplinary studies using clips from the movies Tamas and Garam Hawa. On this occasion, Conveners Mrs. Kawaljit Kaur (HOD, Punjabi) and Mrs. Mamta (HOD, English), Mrs. Sunita Dhawan, Mrs. Kranti Wadhawa, Mrs. Archana Kapoor, Mrs. Ramnita Saini Sharda, Mrs. Kuljit Kaur, Mrs. Veena Arora, Dr. Jyoti Gogia (HOD, Hindi) were also present.
