JAC demands Exclusion of Unaided Colleges from the ambit of Regulatory Body

Moga 14 June (Jaswinder Azad)- Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising 13 different Associations (representing over 1000 Unaided Colleges of Punjab) urged Government to exclude Unaided Colleges from the ambit of Regulatory Body as their number of seats, admissions, syllabus, examination, fee structure etc are already regulated by various regulatory bodies. A delegation of Joint Action Committee today met and submitted the memorandum to Technical Education Minister, Sh Charanjit Singh Channi regarding the same.
JAC in the meeting held today appreciated the efforts being made by Captain Amrinder Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi and Aruna Chaudhary to raise the quality of education in Schools, Colleges and Universities of Punjab.
Dr. Anshu Kataria, Spokesman, JAC said that that these colleges are already under the ambit of State Universities, Punjab Government, State Government, Centre Regulatory Body etc. If these colleges would be brought under the regulatory body it will lead to over lapping of regulatory framework and lead to the confusion.
Kataria further said that regulatory body is required for private universities only, not for colleges. Akali Government also announced in Assembly many times that they will make regulatory body, but they never made it.
Advocate Amit Sharma, Senior Vice President, PUCA while speaking said that Government doesn’t have any control on the number of seats, Admissions, fee structure of private universities. It’s highly appreciable that Captain Government seems to be committed on this issue. Sharma further added that if the upper limit of number of seats in private universities is fixed than it will give a new lease of life to small unaided colleges of Punjab.
