Jalandhar 2 June (Jaswinder Azad)- Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar has won the prestigious Sardar Teja Singh Samundari Overall General Championship Sports Trophy of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar for 22nd time. The College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra alongwith College Dean Sports Dr. S.S. Bains and Head Physical Education Department Dr. Jaspal Singh, Prof. Tarsem Singh and departmental faculty received the trophy from S. Rupa Saini, Arjuna Awardee the Chief Guest of the occasion and Dr. Subodh Kumar Dean Academic Affairs Guru Nank Dev University in the 47th Annual Sports Prize Distribution Function of the University.
The College claimed the trophy with a total of 24128. Speaking to the press the College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra attributed the achievements of the college in sports to the efforts of Late S. Balbir Singh former President College Governing Council and ex-Member Parliament. He also informed that the College had a policy of promoting sports and it offered special facilities to its sports persons –such as liberal concession in fees, free hostel and mess facility. He also informed that the pedigree of the sports department of the college which has produced 2 Padamsree award winners, 6 Arjuna Awardees, 1 Dronachaya Award winner and 2 Dhyan Chand award winning players in addition to 17 Olympians as well. The College Governing Council President Sardarni Balbir Kaur congratulated the sports department, staff and the students of the College on this splendid achievement.
