Jalandhar 29 October (Jaswinder Azad)- With its excellent performance in 2017 Guru Nanak Dev University youth zonal festival at Amritsar, Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar claimed the First Runner-up trophy for zonal competitions. The trophy was awarded to the College Principal Dr. G.S. Samra at Amritsar who along with college ECA Dean Dr. Rashpal Sandhu, senior teachers and the jubilant ECA team received it. On the concluding day the college won second positions in Classical Dance, Western Group Song, Western Vocal Solo, Elocution and third position in Gidha, thus amounting to a total of 8 first, 14 second and 4 third positions, forming a total score of 111 points.
The college won First positions in Bhangra Mime, Classical Inst. (Percussion), Rangoli, Geet/Gazal, Folk Orchestra, Folk Song, Poetical Symposium second positions in Group Song, Group Shabad, Vaar Singing, Collage, Clay Modeling, Skit, One Act Play, Classical Inst. (Non-Percussion), General Dance, Classical Vocal, Classical Dance, Western Group Song, Western Vocal Solo and Elocution and third positions Kawishri, Painting on the spot, Cartooning Mimicry and Gidha.
College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra informed that the college teams participated in the Youth Festival after extensive rounds of practice and hardwork which were duly overseen by dedicated and experienced staff members in-charge of various items. He also mentioned that the college has increased its participation in the youth festival over the last 4 years from participation in selective items to now participating in all the competitions of the event and therefore enhancing the levels of success in cultural sphere. Dr. G.S. Samra also added that Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu, Dean, Cultural Affairs oversaw the entire practice for the event and he was tirelessly assisted by Prof. Harpreet Kaur.
Valuable services in the preparations were also rendered by Prof. Ahuja Sandeep, Prof. Navjot Kaur, Prof. Mandeep Singh Bhatia, Prof. Sukhdev Singh, Prof. Pavitar Pal, Prof. Daljit Singh, Prof. Jasneet Kaur, Prof. Palwinder Singh, Prof. Surinderpal Mand, Prof. Harjinder Singh and other faculty members associated with various activities which led to this latest accolade for the college. Sardarni Balbir Kaur, President College Governing Council, on the behalf of the Managing Committee of the college, congratulated Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra and the entire staff and students associated with the Youth Festival Team for the attaining the 1st Runners Up Trophy.
