Jalandhar 7 November (Gurkirat Singh)- An educational trip to Manali has been organized by the Department of Botany, DAV College, Jalandhar under the aegis of Kashyap Biological Society. Dr, Komal Arora, Head of Department and Ms. Sunita Suman, Assistant Professor accompanied 35 students of B.Sc. Medical on this trip. Students got a chance to visit Regional Research Station, IARI, Katrain, Kullu and different beautiful places located in the Manali like Hadima temple, Ghatotkacha Tree temple, Mall Road, Rohtang Pass, Van Vihar, Vashisht Baths, Jogini Falls, Manikarn Sahib, Ramchandra Temple, Lord Shiva Temple and Tibetan Monastery. During this trip Dr. Komal Arora, president Kashyap Biological Society, acquainted students that Hadimba Temple is built around a cave where Hadimbi devi ,wife of Bhima performed meditation . This temple is surrounded by a Cedar forest. Ghatotkacha temple is the open tree temple of Ghatotkacha, son of Hadimba. Mall Road in Manali is the focal point of this hill destination. Van Vihar National park located on the mall road and has a pond for boating and other fun activities. It is surrounded by tall deodar trees. Vashisht Baths are natural hot springs accompanied by beautiful temple. The water in these hot springs contains medicinal properties that are believed to cure skin diseases. Ramchandra Temple is famous for its glorious idols of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. Dr. Komal Arora acquainted students about the flora present in Manali. Flora includes herbs, shrubs, trees, lichens etc. Shorea robusta (sal), sisham, pine, cedar, deodar, Polygonum and other flowering plants are dominating that area. Principal Dr S K Arora said, such trips are very important because these provide first hand information of what we are learning in books. Through such trips, students get an opportunity to interact with their teachers thus this makes a stronger bond between them.
