Jalandhar 26 December (Gurkirat Singh)- Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organized a lecture on Diet and Cancer Prevention in the series of Faculty Enrichment Programme under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. The resource person was Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Asstt. Prof. in Botany. Dean Academics Dr. Kanwaldeep Kaur welcomed her. Dr. Anjana Bhatia talked about how cancer has become very common these days. The graph of cancer is on the rise despite huge progress made by the field of science. Even though mortality with cancer has decreased but incidence of cancer is continuously increasing. It is high time that we understood that cancer is a lifestyle related disease and many factors like our diet, habits, environment and our genes play an important role in occurrence of cancer and related diseases. She said that however certain foods have the ability bestowed upon them by nature to prevent cancer. We need to continuously take in such preventive foods. Such foods include turmeric or Haldi which is the golden spice. Green tea also has been proven by research to prevent cancer. Other preventive foods include berries like strawberry, leh berry, raspberry, etc. Red Wine and Red Tomatoes are also cancer preventive. She said that maximum effort should be done to consume pesticide free diet because pesticides like DDT can cause cancer. Dean Academics Dr. Kanwaldeep Kaur thanked her.
