DAV College, Jalandhar is organizing seven day nss camp w.e.f 20 Dec to 26 Dec, 2017 under the aegis of NSS unit of college at slum area of Ram Nagar

Jalandhar 21 December (Jaswinder Azad)- Inaugural day of the camp was celebrated with great fervour and huge participation of students despite their examinations, was worth appreciation. 100 students from undergraduate and postgraduated classes volunteered for NSS camp. Chief guest of the day was Dr. SK Arora, Principal, DAV College. All unit members and students extended floral welcome to worthy guest. Function started with the brief introduction of NSS unit of college by Prof. Meenu Talwar, program officer. She made students aware about their strengths and need of different vision to tackle problems in their life and society. Program started with prayer by nss volunteers to seek blessings of God on the onset of seven day camp. Two students Gurkirat and Mercy sang folk songs followed by a composition by Prof. Rajan, Dept. of Punjabi. Whole house enchanted the folklore and enjoyed the magic of beautiful poetry and music.
Dr. SK Arora, Principal, addressed students with warmth and pride. He said that the society service for which they have offered themselves is commandable. Despite constraints of exams, student response is overwhelming. He blessed students for keeping their spirit high, selfless, pure and humble. He said that attitude full of gratitude should be the motto of life. We should not feel ashamed in doing our tasks ourselves irrespective of their meagre status and NSS camp actually solves this purpose. It makes them self sufficient and confident to deal with various issues in their lives and society.
Prof. SK Midda, in-charge  NSS,  breifly discussed the aims and objectives of the program. The schedule of all upcoming days and their roles in respective tasks were highlighted objectively. Students were divided into four groups - Rani Laxmi Bai, Bebe Nanaki, Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Shaheed Rajguru.  Volunteers would perform their tasks in groups on successive days. Each day would include a project work followed by an Interactive session, Cultural evening and Sports activity. Performance of all volunteers would be assessed by group leaders and reported daily to program officers. At the end of camp, best nss campers would be selected  and honoured. Prof. SK Midda explained whole idea of camp and encouraged students for simple living and high thinking.
Students of previous camps and new volunteers Bhupesh, Muskan, Vinamr and Simranjeet shared their experiences from past and discussed their expectations from current program.
In the end Dr. Komal Arora, program officer briefly discussed the history of NSS program, meaning of its logo and the objectives of goverment under which this program was launched in 1969 to mark birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi. She thanked worthy guest, organizers, student volunteers and support staff for making the inaugural function a success. The first day of NSS camp concluded with refreshment for staff and students.
