DAV College, Jalandhar organised literary competitions on International Mother Language day

Jalandhar 22 February (Gurkirat Singh)- Punjabi Saahit Sabha of DAV College, Jalandhar organised literary competitions on the occasion of international Mother language day. In these competitions emphasis was lead upon story telling competition and handwriting competition. Students were highly excited to take part in the competitions. While inaugurating the competitions, Principal Dr SK Arora said that internal mind of a person thinks in his native language only. Actual identity of a person is fixed by his mother language.On this occasion Prof Lakhbir Singh, HOD of Punjabi department said that in the world full of technology and excessive use of English language is minimising the use of mother language. UNESCO believes that out of 7000 languages of world 3500 have become extinct, every month 2 languages seems to elope. There are 196 languages in India which represent the delicacy of local language. Long ago punjabi was popular and its usage was heard from Sindh to Delhi and Kashmir to Rajasthan. But today even a punjabi feels hesitant speak punjabi. Prof SK Middha, incharge of Punjabi Sahit Sabha announced the names of competitions. Prof Devinder Mand and Prof Manjit Singh were the respective judges for story telling competition. The handwriting competition was judged by Dr. Ashok Khurana, Prof Balvinder Singh and Prof Satpal Singh. The students who got first, second and third positions were presented momentos and participation certificates were distributed amidst all. Prof Kamaldeep Singh, Prof Anurag Sharma, Prof Sukhdev Singh, Prof Kanwaldeep Singh, Prof Kirandeep Kaur, Prof Amandeep Kaur, Prof Satinder Kaur, Prof Indu Bala, Prof Baljeet Kaur, Prof Gurpreet Kaur and Prof Gurwinder Kaur also played important roles in this event. Ramandeep kaur (MA) got first prize in handwriting competition whereas Bakshish kaur (B.Com) stood 2nd and Deepakshi ( Bsc. Non med) stood 3rd in handwriting competition. On the other hand Simar kaur ( Bsc. Comp. Sci.) got first position in story telling competition, Sukhbir (Bsc. Comp. Sci.) stood 2nd and khushpreet ( BA) stood 3rd.
