Jalandhar 12 March (Jaswinder Azad)- An enlightening Panel Discussion was organized at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar on the recent burning issue “Punjab National Bank Scam”.
With scams becoming a daily headline, The Library Club of Apeejay initiated a panel Discussion on NIMO Embezzlement. Amidst deplorable state of affairs, where country’s economy is being affected drastically, college students, Moksh, Harshita, Soloni, Pulkit, Nilesh, Jaskirat Singh, Amrarpreet Singh, Gehna Kundra, Suvidha and Shreya tried to critically analyze the coincidences which paved the way for this scam. From Nirav Modi’s relations with the prime Minister to the overlooking while issuing so many LOU’s without collateral, from incorrect communication to the misuse of SWIFT It proved to be a nexus. Students consented on the issue that it was the fault of the management as well as the lack of staff accountability of such a large public sector bank that allowed this blunderous scam to take place right under its nose fooling the RBI and the whole nation.
After scrutinizing upon the issue and its impact on nation’s economy, students brought possible solution to the surface like a board should be formed by SEBI to check all the non-performing assets along with periodic rotation of employees should be adopted. In this discussion, Nilesh, Amarpreet Singh and Moksh were awarded first, second and third prize respectively for thier innovative ideas.
Principal Dr. Sucharita Sharma opined that this scam has broken the age old myth, “Banking doesn’t involve fraud” as it has become a harsh reality of Indian Banking System. She further said such discussions are mandatory as these ignite the young minds to act defensively for the economy of their nation as they are power and change of the future.
