Jalandhar 23 February (Jaswinder Azad)- Around 360 students were awarded degrees in the Annual Convocation held at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, today. Chief Guest of the event Padamshri Dr. Jayaraman Gowrishankar the noted scientist and former Director Centre for DNA Finger Printing and Diagnostic, Hyderabad conferred on degrees to those students who qualified post graduation Masters Exams in session 2014-15 in various academic streams.
In his convocation address, the Chief Guest urged the students to work relentlessly to achieve their aims in life, and asked them to work unitedly for realizing the dream of a prosperous and developed India. He lauded the institution for providing the needed ambience for academic and research activities. Congratulating the students on their awards, he wished them good luck on their initiation into professional life.
The President of the College Governing Council Sardarni Balbir Kaur welcomed the Chief Guest and said that the college was providing globally acceptable and job fetching quality education to its pupils and it was making special efforts in educating women, as around 35% of its total student strength was comprised by women students. Wishing the graduates good luck in life, she asked them to work unitedly for the betterment of the society
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of the College Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra said that the institution was committed to quality education, productive research and all round development of students. Highlighting the achievements of the college, he informed the present that the College had been awarded Potential for Excellence status by the UGC, Bechalor of Vocation Courses by the Skill Council of India and Special grant by the Ministry of Science of Technology under FIST ‘O’ Level category. He also informed that the college had been short listed for the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in Innovation category. The stage on the occasion was managed by Prof. Mansi Chopra.
