KMV Organizes a One Day National Workshop on Practice Research and Emerging Paradigms of Qualitative Research in Fashion Designing

Jalandhar 26 March (Gurkirat Singh)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Autonomous and Heritage Institution, Jalandhar promoting Quality Research is a continuous practice as a method to enhance the skill and academies training on campus. A one day National Workshop on Practice Research and Emerging Paradigms of Qualitative Research in Fashion Designing was organized under College for Potential of Excellence Phase 2 by the KMV P.G. Department of Fashion Designing and Merchandising. More than 100 participants from 12 different institutions participated in this workshop.The chief guest of the day was Mrs. Shruti Shukla, State Coordinator, Guidance Bureau-cum-Deputy Director SCERT. The guest of honour was designer Puneet Arora, a name to reckon with in the field of modern suit for men. Other prominent presences for the occasion were that of Dr. Sushma Chawla, Vice President, KMV Managing Committee and Mrs. Neenu Kapoor form KMV managing committee. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi welcomed the guests and said that fashion designing studies is the fast growing discipline all over the world which is visible in fashion institutes across the globe. Hence we must ensure that we guide a generation of practitioners who are adaptable, eco-friendly/literate and culturally sensitized. They must also be experiments driven. Broadly fashion studies are anthropological, economic, historic, psychological and sociological studies among others. The research in the field demands high standard both qualitatively and qualitatively. Then it was the turn of the resource person Dr. Deepak John Methews (HOD, Department of Design  IIT Hyderabad). Dr. Reeta Kant Department of UIFT and VD, P.U, Chandigarh), Dr. Jayanti Dutta (Deputy Director, UGC-HRD) centre, PU. Dr. Deepak John Mathew gave the key-note address. His topic was Practice Research and emerging paradigms of Qualitative research in Fashion Design, Head, Department of Design IIT Hyderabad. He talked about how a researcher differs from an artisan or craftsman as he innovates new art forms. He also distinguished b/w Practice Based research and Practice-Led Research. The other two speaker were Rita Kant who spoke about Establishing evaluating criteria for creative research in applied design and Jayanti Dutta who spoke about Researching fashion using qualitative methods in creative fields. The audience has mush food for the thought at the end of every session and lively interaction marked the culmination of each speakers discourse. It was overall a fulfilling experience for all those who attended the workshop. All the faculty of the Department of Fashion Designing attended the workshop Mrs. Harpreet, Head Department of Fashion Designing thanked the guest and participants for having made the programme such a fruitfull venture with their presence and participation.
