Jalandhar 5 March (Gurkirat Singh)- Modern Punjabi Poetry in the was the topic of a one-day seminar on Punjabi literature held in Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar today under the guidance of College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra. Organised by the PG Department of Punjabi, this seminar witnessed the participation of noted literary figure Dr. Surjit Singh from Punjabi University Patiala, Principal Guriqbal Singh as chief speakers while Darshan Khatkar presided over the proceedings of the seminar. The dignitaries were duly welcomed to the college by Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra and Prof. Gopal Singh Buttar, Head, PG Department of Punjabi. In his address, Dr. Surjit Singh highlighted the importance of the genre of verse in Punjabi Literature while Dr. Guriqbal singh also spread some valuable light on the poetry movement in Punjabi Literature. Dr. Chanarjit Singh Padda and Jagvinder Yodha also presented their views on the topic under discussion with references to the paper read on the occasion. A book edited by Dr. Anoop Singh was also released as a part of the proceedings. Dr. Darshan Khatkar said that in the modern world literature in verse form was more relevant than ever and it was the responsibility of the academia to support and promote literature as language thrived on literature. In his address, the Principal of the College Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra said that Lyallpur Khalsa College is committed to serve Punjabi culture and language. The discussion in the seminar was also witnessed by Dr. Jaspal Singh, Rajinder Bimal, Mahinder Sathi, C. Markanda, Jagir Singh Kahlon, Ravinder Bhathal and Tejinder while the stage was managed by Prof. Kuldip Sodhi. Prof Gopal Singh Buttar presented the Vote of thanks to conclude the program.
