Three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Campaign in Apeejay Institute of Management Technical Campus

Jalandhar 5 March (Gurkirat Singh)- Apeejay Institute of Management Technical Campus is organising a three- day Entrepreneurship Awareness Campaign from March 5 to March 7, 2018 in association with Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Mr. Ahsan Ul Haq, President, Jalandhar Management Association was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session. The three-day campaign began with a floral welcome of the Chief Guest by Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director, Apeejay Institute of Management Technical Campus. Dr. Bagga then delivered a welcome address and stated that Apeejay Institute of Management Technical Campus is organising this event since 2015 every year with a view to expose students about entrepreneurship. This camp aims at creating awareness among participants about various facets of entrepreneurship while highlighting the merits of pursuing such a career option. Dr. Bagga added that he is confident that students have brilliant ideas but it is fear that holds them back. He said that this fear creeps from the very fact that as starters one  lacks knowledge of how to get started. There lies the sole purpose of organising this three- day camp as it will bring to students great and eminent speakers to guide them on their journey of being successful entrepreneurs. Mr. Ahsan Ul Haq, President, Jalandhar Management Association then delivered the inaugural address. Mr. Haq began his address stating that individuals could be categorized into four classes: Job Seekers, Self Employed, Big business owners and Investors. He highlighted the fact that a big proportion of people fall under the first three categories, however, it is the fourth category of investors who are amassing about 90% of the wealth. He explained that these people are not averse to risks. They are the enterprising individuals. Further, he also explicated various government schemes and initiatives to promote entrepreneurship like Government E- Marketing (GEM), Mudra Scheme, New India 3.0 Mentor On Road (an initiative to connect Indian business with foreign businesses.) He also explained the key drivers of capital goods sector in India which include: Smart cities and villages, Aviation, Textiles, Construction, Food Processing etc. Mr. Haq also mentioned that one of the three most significant initiatives and/or priorities of the present government Start up India, Stand up India and Ease of doing Business are instrumental and strongly linked to building Clean India, Smart India, digital India and Skilled India. The inaugural session ended with memento presentation to honourable Chief Guest. Mr. Hitesh Dawar, a successful entrepreneur and an alumnus of the institution shared his entrepreneurial journey with the students. He shared some important resources like the website kickstarter.com where one can share prototypes of their ideas or business plans and get further direction on their execution. He stressed the idea that identifying the need is the prime factor in entrepreneurship. Mr. Amardev Singh from NITTR Chandigarh expressed his views on the topic Idea Generation- What and How to Think. He cited various examples on how one can be innovative. Some of the many examples he gave included:
  • Pen with different features like pen with a torch, 
  • Pen with bluetooth feature integrated in it, 
  • Pen with pointer feature.
  • Umbrella that can be fitted in a small box
He further explained that observation is the key to innovation.
Prof. MJ Kalra, who retired from GNDU College and is also the owner of Shalimar enterprises was also one of the resource persons. In his address, he talked on the topic E-commerce Entrepreneurship. Prof. Kalra also informed the students of how to turn their ideas into reality. He mentioned various sectors which can be explored for extracting out new ideas. Citing the examples of Pepperfry which sells furniture online and also has retail stores in big cities, he mentioned that the customers apprehensiveness and skepticism about online buying is  put at rest as they have this understanding that they have authentic sources to go to in case of any grievance. He further added that it sells 4000 products everyday and has 60% of the organised market share. Prof. Kalra further mentioned that Amazon and Flipkart have also started catering to online jewelley segment. They were initially selling casual jewellery but now are eyeing on selling branded jewelley and thus further expanding their domain to reach a new level. Caratlane is now owned by Tanishq and the latter presently is selling its online jewllery through Caratlane. Taking all these examples, he stressed upon the idea that e commerce is the flavour of the day. Ideas are easy but execution is difficult. The various sectors that are and can be explored for entrepreneurship are pharma sector, parking, logistics, astrology, water pumps, dairy sector, gardening, etc.

  • Mompresso where women can share experiences and give tips to others

  • Zoomcar - self car drive rental startup
  • Astrology - clickastro.info
  • Pumpkart( by an entrepreneur fro Chandigarh)- to buy online waterpumps for domestic agricultural and commercial usage 
  • Doodhwala- they have 6000 customers and 1 lakh monthly delivery of various dairy products Milkbasket- awarded Startup of the Year 2017 and engaged in the business of dairy products
Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director Apeejay Institute of Management Technical Campus expressed that this workshop is going to be very beneficial for the budding entrepreneurs.
