Jalandhar 3 May (Jaswinder Azad)- A DBT sponsored two day workshop on “Machine Learning Algorithm for Biological Data Analysis” was organized by Department of Zoology and PG Department of Bioinformatics under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, Principal, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. Dr. Jayaraman Valadi, Adjunct Professor at Center for Modelling and Simulation, Savitribai Phule Pune University, was the resource person of the event. Dr. Jayaraman taught about the various machine learning algorithms used for the analysis of biological data. He trained the participants on various software used for statistical analysis of data in various fields. He also gave hands on training on Weka software, which can be used for various purposes by students as well as research scholars in their research work. About 40 students and faculty members from various institutes like Punjab University Chandigarh, DAV University Jalandhar, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar participated in this workshop.
Principal Prof Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen welcomed and honored the guest and congratulated the Departments of Zoology and Bioinformatics for this unique initiative. Mr. Harpreet Singh, Convener and Head of the Department of Bioinformatics introduced about the Bioclues society (Regd.) and its initiatives for popularizing Computational Biology & Bioinformatics in India. Dr Seema Marwaha, Head of the Department of Zoology presented votes of thanks to various stakeholders and the participants for making this workshop a success. She particularly expressed her gratitude for the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India for funding this workshop. On this occasion the faculty members Mrs. Purnima, Dr. Kanika, Ms. Avantika and Ms. Harman were also present.
