Jalandhar 4 June (Jaswinder Azad)- Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya is an environmentally conscious institute which is constantly working towards raising awareness regarding environment issues. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen said that the institute has installed a waste paper recycling machine and is working on recycling of plastic. The waste paper, cardboard, denim etc. is recycled by the students in the machine and files hence prepared are sold by the students in ‘Earn while You Learn’ scheme. The college has successfully set up a vermicompost unit which disposes garbage in a very efficient, eco-friendly and productive manner. The college has developed a healthy practice of gifting plants instead of plastic wrapped bouquets for the better environment. Plastic bottles have been recycled in the campus to make bird feeders and bird splashes. Speaking on the occasion, Program officer Mrs. Veena Arora said that our mindset must change and we must stop the usage of plastic bags. Program officer Dr. Anjana Bhatia said that the college is a plastic free zone and it is out prime duty to stop plastic usage as it takes millions of years to degrade plastic. The students felt very motivated and promised to raise awareness regarding plastic pollution. On this occasion, Mrs. Alka and Ms. Harmanu were also present.
