Jalandhar 25 August (Jaswinder Azad)- Pahal youth organization organized an international round table conference to discuss the issues faced by international migrants and to raise questions about their Diaspora. This conference was held in head Office of PAHAL with the collaboration of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. The delegation from Britain included Rt. Hon David Hanson MP, Constituency Delyn, Mr. Bob Blackman MP, Constituency Harrow East London, Mr. Baroness Barker (Liberal Democratic Party, House of Lords, Mr. David Lelliott OBE British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh and Mr. Robert Harper Asia Pacific Programme Manager, CPA UK. Very learned people from various sectors of society were called in the conference for discussion on the issue of Migration and Diaspora. Representing the educationists of the region, Dr. Ajay Sareen, Principal HMV Jalandhar said that the migrant students are not given the respect they deserve in the countries abroad. She insisted that the British authorities should give enough time to the students to settle in the culture of the country. Dr. B.B. Sharma, principal DAV college, Jalandhar said that the political boundaries in the western world represent culture of each country and the illegal infiltration of people from one country to another is having a very bad impact on the cultural setup a the country level. Er. Jagroop Singh, Principal Mehar Chand Polytechnic College Jalandhar discussed about the issues related to the exit of Britain from the European Union. Gen. GS Dhillon, CEO Sant Baba Bhag Singh University discussed about the need of monuments related to the martyrs of the Indian Independence struggle. Representing various social organizations of the region, Col. S.S. Sokhi chairman Zindagi-e-Khas said that Migration happens everywhere and the migrants have to start their life from scratch in the foreign country in spite of the experience they hold in India. Adding to this, Sh. SK Chopra, former President NRI Sabha District Jalandhar condemned illegal immigration and said that the adverse effects of illegal immigration are faced by the genuine visitors who do not intend to overstay their visa which in turn badly affects the social development of both the countries. The chief Guest of the event, Ms. Deepika Singh ACP suggested that huge improvement is needed in the system of communication of cases both the countries so that the police can work for the betterment of the masses in a constructive way. Kuldeep S. Sahota, Retd. ICS and former advisor United Nations said that the Indian nationals migrated abroad have to face huge problems related to racism while sharing his own experiences. Mr. Jaswant Chatha, an NRI based in Britain from last 50 years represented the Punjabi community settled in Britain and shared their problems. Prof. Lakhbir Singh, president PAHAL said that the inclusive social development can take place only with the continuous collaboration of both the countries and for that, the immigration rules of both the countries need to undergo constructive amendments. Mr. David Henson presided the British Delegation and praised the suggestions given by whole of the speakers in the conference. He also promised that some action will be taken for elimination of the problems that have been brought forward by the participants of the conference. Mr. Bob Blackman MP London Conservative Party said that his constituency has 40% migrant citizens and he has gained lot of insights from this conference. He assured that he will use these insights to work for the betterment of migrants. Ms. Broness Barker appreciated the efforts done by Pahal and responded well to the queries of the participants. Mr. David Lelliot OBE, Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh British High Commission said that he will put forward the suggestions related to the development of a more transparent and just visa policy. He also stated that more than 90% of the applicants of the British visa get their visa. Smt. Alam Bains Political & Media Adviser, British Deputy High Commission Chandigarh coordinated with PAHAL for organizing this conference and also participated in it. Apart from others, Mrs. Harvinder Kaur, Dr. Jagdish Kaur Wadia Sr. VP Pahal, Smt. Harvinder Kaur Principal NORMAAN School for holistic education, Ms. Ritu Kocher, Smt. Sarita Sharma, Smt. Balwant Kaur Sahota, Mrs. Rachna Khehra partiocipated in the conference. Er. Liakatbir Singh was the host of the ceremony.
