Awareness Programme on “Swachhta Hi Seva” at HMV

Jalandhar 30 September (Jaswinder Azad)- Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organized an awareness programme on “Swachhta Hi Seva” under the UGC programme through Video Conferencing.  The Head girl of the college Ms. Gurpal Kaur welcomed the resource person Mrs. Aastha Sayal, Founding Partner, Gaia Smart Cities (part of the National Program Management Unit PMU for Swachh Bharat Mission with the Ministry of Urban Development).  The resource person started her speech by telling the importance of cleanliness. She said that cleanliness is directly related to health and to have a healthy country, first we need a clean country. Mrs. Aastha discussed the aim of Swachh Bharat like use of toilets, modern and scientific municipal waste management, behavioural change regarding health sanitation practices and industry participation in making the country clean.  Various ideas to fulfill this aim were also shared like “Trash-to-Treasure”, Composting, Swachhta pin-ups and so on.
According to the resource person, over 75% of waste is recyclable where as we recycle just about 30% only.  Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen motivated the students to join hands together for this mission of Swachh Bharat and to start it from our homes, institutes and our surroundings.  At the end, the “Swachhta Pledge” was taken and signed by all the students along with the Head of the Institution, School Coordinator Mrs. Meenakshi Sayal, Dean Student Council Mrs. Urvashi Mishra and other staff members.
