Jalandhar 2 September (Jaswinder Azad)- Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator. She was a great humanitarian and is best known for the philosophy of education. Dr. Maria Montessori is the founder of the Montessori Method of education.
Eklavya School celebrates her birthday every year by organizing a Montessori Exhibition in which kids give presentation about the use of Montessori materials. This year on 2nd September’16 Montessori Exhibition was organized in the School where the pre- primary and primary school students showed their skills in maneuvering the material. There was a colourful rainbow of Montessori material like- Pink tower , Brown stairs, Spindle box, Number rods, Golden beads, Bead bars, Puzzles, Cylindrical blocks, Red rods, Flash cards, Soft and Hard Shapes Cutouts etc.
All the pre- primary and primary students were divided into different groups and they performed different activities by manipulating the Montessori material. Nursery kids exhibited the use of Pink Tower and brown stairs and Cylindrical blocks which help in developing the fine motor coordination and in the strengthening of hand and finger muscles. They also solved the puzzles which help in enhancing their general knowledge and improve their eye hand coordination. LKG children exhibited the use of Number rods, Spindle box, beads and bead bar which help to recognize the numerals, to understand the concept of zero and counting.
UKG kids made a spinning wheel from colour tablets, did addition table through Ganit mala and showed their creativity by making beautiful designs using the hard and soft shapes cutouts which helps in improving visual discrimination and recognition of shapes.
Class 1 students did multiplication table with straws, used place value cards and ice cream sticks in doing addition table which helps in making their math’s subject easier, interesting and creative.
Class 2 students exhibited addition and subtraction with place value cards which helps in child’s visual perception of numbers. Class 3 students did enactment on prepositions, billing, roman numbers using ice cream sticks and showed their creativity by making beautiful shapes using the rangometry. Class 4 students exhibited enactment on fractions, explained the use of graph and angles with the help of teaching learning aids.
The Director Ms Seema handa, The Manager Ms. Sapna Bakshi and The principal Ms Dimpal Sharma were presented there and appreciated all the efforts done by the students and encouraged them to use the Montessori material properly for making their studies easier and interesting.
