Jalandhar 24 October (Jaswinder Azad)- The English Department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya in collaboration with the department of Mass Communication and under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen organized a guest lecture on Phonetics and Spoken English by Dr. Z.N. Patil. Dr. Patil is an erudite Professor of English in department of Training, Development and Education, School of English Language Education at the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. The welcome address was given by the Head of department Dr. Adarsh Khanna.
An effective communicator himself Dr. Patil spoke at length about speaking and listening skills in a very interesting manner, illustrating them with anecdotes and incidents from day to day life. He emphasized on the use of simple language that is easy to understand. He explained that good listening is the key to effective communication. Variations in tone, stress patterns, pronunciation, pauses, intonation etc. bring about a change in the meaning which implies their careful usage. Appreciating the efforts of the department Principal Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen said that the teachers need to focus on building a good rapport with their students and remove their fear of English language. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Ramnita Saini Sharda. The faculty members of English Department were also present on this occasion.
